All Coaches Have A Story

Updated: Jun 2

I'll get to mine in a later blog post, but here's a quick story: The 2024 college baseball season came to a close for the Lansing Stars just a bit too early. A team known for having one of the top five offenses in the country was also known for having many Freshmen who would be asked to carry a heavy load during the season. The team's youth is a factor in the 35 -17 season and will take care of itself when it retakes the field in August. Many of this season's sophomores will continue their baseball journeys, and some will hang up their cleats for the final time. Saying goodbye is always the hardest for me when the time comes, and the two seasons prior were at the College World Series, which some had thought would make it easier, but now, after getting to watch the CWS from home. I can confirm that it is not.

Why is it so hard to say goodbye? Well, it starts with only having one to two seasons with them. By seasons, I mean from August to May or June, which is ten months on the calendar and a short amount of time to build trust and love. The aforementioned trust and love are equally vital to the belief system, and all three are muscles that, if practiced correctly, can lead to more extraordinary accomplishments and joy. Sometimes, those moments are not defined by the scoreboard, and teams fall short of the high standards. Knowing that may be why saying goodbye is so hard. I'm not sure that I will ever truly understand.

Looking back, what has been accomplished over the last three seasons is still hard to believe. It has taken a lot of hard work and many great people coming forward to support and enhance the vision. It reminds me of the saying, " What Is Possible?" in three seasons, the punctuation has changed just a bit to " What? Is Possible! "An enormous thank you goes out to those who have left fingerprints on this journey here with the Stars.

I receive questions almost daily about what is next here and what is next to problem-solve. In all honesty, I do not have those answers yet, but I do know the "Systems of Success" will continue to move forward, and so will the Stars.
